Atteler :
The act of attatching the dogs to the lines of a sled, rig, scooter or bike, or between the shafts of a pulka.
 
Balise :
A board, of a form and colour defined by the rules, mounted on a stake, placed by the side of the trail during races so as to indicate to competitors a turn, change of direction dangerous passage etc.
 
Canicross :
Sport practised by a runner hitched to a dog by way of a line and harness.
 
Cani-Rando :
Is so called for liesure activities on or off snow during which the tour will be done with the appropriate material and the help of a hitched dog.
 
Cart :
Three or four wheeled machine, with no engin, able to be pulled by a team of sled dogs.
 
Cross-Canin :
All the sled dog sport activities practised off snow.
 
Frein :
Brake, generally made of metal situated at the back of the sled that the conductor actions with his foot to slow or stop the sled.
 
Harnacher :
The action of putting the harness on a dog.
 
Harnais :
Equipment made of leather, but more often from synthetic webbing and padded, adapted to the morphology to be able to garuntee the best comfort for the dog who wears it and allowing the dog to move freely and in all security while pulling a load. There exists different models of harnesses adapted to the diverse activities of sled dog sports an alike.
 
Hors-Neige :
Terms employed to describe sled dog sport activites practised off snow, on dirt tracks, grass or sand where the sled is replaced by a machine with two, three or four wheels.
 
Juge De Course :
Official who, under the responsibility of the race marshall ensures the respect of the organisation and race rules during a sled dog race.
 
Jury De Course :
Group of people including the Race Marshall and Race Officials.
 
Kart :
Three or four wheeled machine, with no engin, able to be pulled by a team of sled dogs.
 
Patin :
Part of the sled acting as a ski allowing the sled to slide on the snow. Generally covered with a runner made of plastic often removable and able to be waxed.
 
Patinette :
Two wheeled machine with a handlebar and upon which the user can stand.
 
Roller :
Two wheeled machine with a handlebar and upon which the user can stand.
 
Roller-Cross :
Term sometimes used by people to name the activity of scootering or other two wheeled machine pulled by two sled dogs.
 
Ski-Pulka :
Of Scandinavian origine, practised by a cross country skier accompanied by one or several dogs in a line (maximum four in a competition) pulling a pulka. The skier is linked to the pulka by a security line.
 
Terre :
Term employed to describe sled dog sport activites practised off snow, on dirt tracks, grass or sand where the sled is replaced by a machine with two, three or four wheels.
 
Traîneau :
Vehicule approximately 2 to 3 meters long made of wood or othe resistant material, but supple (for exemple carbon, aluminium,
wood), pulled by dogs during sled dog races or carrying a passenger and/or material on snow.
 
Trottinette :
Two wheeled machine with a handlebar and upon which the user can stand.
 
Vélo-Cross :
Term sometimes employed by people to describe the activity of a cyclist on a mountain bike pulled by a sled dog.
